Rogerio Lira Portrait (2017)

I love working with people and helping them tell their stories.
As a creative director and designer, I have extensive experience in socially engaged design projects, primarily in the cultural and health sectors. My cross-media practice spans brand identity, motion graphics and all forms of digital content design.

DESIGN APPROACH
My visual language is clear and accessible, concise but never simplistic.

For every project, I bring to the table an associative mind, a fresh transcultural perspective and senior level work experience.

All design emerges from dialogue. I enjoy working through multiple design iterations – whether with clients, stakeholders or students – listening and developing ideas in cooperation.

VISUAL ETHNOGRAPHY AS A METHOD
For a number of projects I have gathered data and conducted interviews with specific groups of people, from dancers and other creative professionals to at-risk communities. The collected material is analyzed, condensed and recast into a visual storytelling format that communicates the particular narratives of those groups. This exploration of visual ethnography is a method I am refining and expanding.

CLIENTS
My clients include UNESCO, IMF, World Bank, Al-Jazeera, TNT Dutch Post, AFK Amsterdam Fund for the Arts, VPRO, BNN/VARA, Amsterdam Museum, Lowlands Festival, COC, Dutch National Opera & Ballet, Submarine Productions, Dutch HIV Association, Schorer Foundation for LGBT health.

STUDIOS and PARTNERS
In the past twenty years I have run three independent design studios, always with a focus on socially engaged projects involving culture and health.

My fantastic partners in these endeavours were Gabriëlle Marks, Aldje van Meer, Fred Inklaar (as Airplant) and Joost Verhaak (as Mount.nl).

TEACHING, LECTURING and LIVE EVENTS
I have taught digital media design at Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam and audio-visual design at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, and have conducted design workshops at Merz University of Applied Art, Design and Media in Stuttgart.

I have created large-scale video for live music events, theater performances and awards ceremonies.
